Lesson #3: Graffiti Poster Making
Objectives
- Students will be able to explain the perspective of the Union in writing.
- Students will be able to explain the perspective of the Confederates in writing.
- Posters with a variety of headings that pertain to the Civil War and objectives
- Markers for students to use to write on the poster
- Glue for the students to glue on their computer findings.
- Computers to help find pictures, music, poems, and other arts to go on the posters.
- Printer to print out computer findings.
- Posters will be placed around the room, with different headings that correlate to the North, the South, and their differences.
- The students will be sent around in small groups to write whatever they feel should be written on these posters. This is a graffiti activity, so there is no write or wrong, and creativity is key. The students should feel they can express their ideas in any way they see fit.
- The class will use these posters later, during their class debate on the Civil War.
- Students are able to write, draw, or do both on the posters. They are also encouraged to explore other fine arts in expressing their ideas.
- This summative assessment is done on a class wide level. It will be done shortly before the class debate in order for the teacher to assess if the students are ready for this and be able to clear up any issues or concerns that may still exist.
- Students will be permitted to use the computer to print things that can be added to the poster or find music, poems, or other pieces of the fine arts to help accompany the poster.
